Gennaro Gattuso Investigated For Match Fixing

Former Italy and AC Milan midfieder Gennaro Gattuso is being investigated for possible match fixing.

Recently, the midfield maestro was sacked by Serie B club Palermo after six games in charge. Gattuso has had a glittering career winning major silverware for both club and country.

Gattuso won two Serie A titles and two Champions League cups with AC Milan as well as the World Cup in 2006 with Italy.

The problem of match fixing has been common with many professional footballers in both past and present. Six players including DJ Campbell have been alleged of match fixing lately, and it is feared that it is becoming a problem in football.

Match fixing has led to severe punishments, including points deduction for European heavyweights AC Milan and a league relegation for rivals Juventus, after winning the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Other players who were involved in match fixing sagas are two former Lazio captains Stefano Mauri and Giuseppe Signori.

Match fixing has also happened in other sports. It is an illegal procedure towards the sports and a stop needs to be put to it.

English football’s anti corruption boss wants tougher laws which will have to be faced if people involved in the sport are fixing football matches.

European governing body UEFA have already taken action towards match fixing. UEFA have distributed a 11 point plan to combat match fixing in football.
