Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta put pens to paper on a three year contract and has committed his future to the Spanish club.
Iniesta’s previous contract was set to expire in 18 months, but now Barcelona have renewed the Spaniard’s contract, president Sandro Rosell confirmed.
“He will stay with us until 2018 and he could renew every year after that based on his playing performances”, said Sandro Rosell.
Iniesta has had an amazing career and has won trophies for both club and country. He has been instrumental and consistent which saw him contest as a participator in the Ballon D’Or in previous seasons.
The Spaniard joined Barcelona as a 12 year old in 1996 from Albacete. Andres Iniesta has made 496 appearances for the Catalan based club and has won the La Liga six times and the Champions League three times.
Iniesta also won the World Cup in 2010 after beating Holland in the finals. The Spanish midfielder scored in extra time to help his country winning the World Cup.
Iniesta also won Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 with Spain, and is now seen as one of Europe’s finest players, certainly in the last decade.
The Barcelona team of 2009-2011 era which consisted of Xavi, Iniesta and four times Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi is dubbed to be one of the greatest footballing teams the sport has ever witnessed.
