Manchester United 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Manchester United bounced back from recent draws and defeats in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Reds struggled in the majority of the first half with Shakhtar Donetsk creating more of the better chances.

Taison came close to giving the visitors the lead, but the shot was well saved by United goalkeeper David De Gea.

Manchester United did create two scoring opportunities through Ashley Young but he failed to score from both opportunities.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY: Ashley Young fails to score for United

United looked vulnerable in the back as Ferdinand and Giggs conceded possession of the ball sloppily deep in the United half.

The second half saw Manchester United improve from their first half performance. United where more positive with the ball going forward and created more goalscoring opportunities through Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj both coming close.

But it was a rather unusual name on the score sheet as Phil Jones managed to get the game’s only goal with a superb half volley inside the box.

Robin Van Persie also failed to score after creating a chance late on in the match. He managed to hit the side netting with a little dink of the ball with his left foot over the goalkeeper.

The goal was enough to settle the difference between the two sides on the evening. The victory has now eased the pressure a little bit on Manchester United manager David Moyes.

United continued to extend their unbeaten European record this season. Now, with the group stages coming to an end, Manchester United managed to finish 1st in Group A with 14 points.
